During the previous summer’s transfer window, three Premier League teams – Chelsea (£424.8m), Spurs (£213.4m), and Manchester City (£211.1m) – exceeded Arsenal’s outright spending of £203.5m. However, when considering net spend, the Gunners (£124.7m) were second only to Chelsea (£203.5m) in the league rankings.

Arsenal’s move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice during the summer was, until their London rivals signed Moises Caicedo in mid-August, the most expensive ever conducted between two English clubs. Additionally, they acquired attacker Kai Havertz from Stamford Bridge, defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax, and goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford on an initial loan.

Given the limited recouping of funds through sales, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta needs to consider balancing the books to make further squad additions in January.

Amid Crystal Palace’s interest, Arsenal has set a £30m price tag on striker Eddie Nketiah, who is highly regarded at the Emirates. The Gunners are determined to drive a hard bargain, possibly insisting on a sell-on clause as part of any potential transfer.

Nketiah’s potential departure is linked to the pursuit of a new center-forward, with Arsenal interested in Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke, as well as the well-documented links to Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Nketiah’s exit could free up funds and space for a move for a new number nine.

Despite Nketiah’s significant playing time this season, Arsenal views Solanke as an upgrade. Solanke has already doubled his previous season’s goal tally in just 20 games, ranking third in Premier League top scorers with 12 goals.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola have praised Solanke’s form, with Iraola describing him as a “complete” striker, showcasing his well-rounded skills beyond goalscoring. Arsenal’s interest in Solanke reflects his convincing all-round package and significant improvement this season.
