The Chicago Bears have officially confirmed the news. On Tuesday, the team formally announced the hiring of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, concluding a nearly two-week search that involved evaluating nine candidates.

Reports on Monday morning from various sources indicated that the Bears were in the final stages of securing a deal with Waldron, the former offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, and now the agreement has been finalized.

Waldron brings a wealth of experience on both the college and professional levels, with a notable tenure working with offenses, including under Sean McVay for the Los Angeles Rams from 2017 to 2020. He assumed the role of offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks in 2021 until the conclusion of the recent season.

During his time with the Seahawks, the offense ranked 17th in points per game (21.4) and 21st in yards per game (322.9) in the 2021 season, overcoming challenges such as the absence of Geno Smith and Kenneth Walker for several games.

Waldron played a crucial role in helping Smith have an impressive 2022 season, contributing to the quarterback’s career revival and leading the Seahawks to the playoffs.

Head coach Matt Eberflus issued a statement regarding the hiring.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shane to our coaching staff,” stated head coach Matt Eberflus. “I also want to express my gratitude to all the candidates we engaged with during the thorough interview process. While it was an exhaustive search, I’m thankful that it ultimately led us to Shane.

He possesses exceptional teaching and communication skills, coupled with a diverse coaching background alongside some of the game’s most elite head coaches. I eagerly anticipate our collaboration as we continue to build out the rest of the staff and initiate his role here.”
