“It likely should have taken place a while ago”: Novak Djokovic acknowledges that a potential merger between ATP and WTA makes commercial sense.

Serbia’s renowned tennis player and world number one, Novak Djokovic, supports the notion of a merger between the WTA and ATP tours, citing that it would be commercially sensible.

Reports within the tennis community suggest the possibility of such a merger in the near future. Djokovic expressed his endorsement for the idea during the Australian Open, clarifying that he lacks insider information about the ongoing developments.

“Yeah, I heard about it. I’m not certain if it’s a complete merger or more of a commercial collaboration or agreement between the two tours. I think, to some extent, it makes sense. Considering the number of combined events on the tour, collaborating further to enhance the overall value of tennis seems logical.

However, regarding a total merger, I’m not so sure if that could work because there are still significant differences in rules and the operational aspects of the tours. But from a commercial perspective, why not? Let’s see what happens. I’m no longer in the council, so I don’t have any insider information to share with you, but let’s see what happens.”
