The Boston Celtics, currently leading the Eastern Conference, are reportedly considering potential moves ahead of the February 8th trade deadline. Despite their impressive 28-7 record and a strong starting lineup, there are rumors that the Celtics are exploring options to enhance frontcourt depth.

One player who has been on Boston’s radar is Toronto Raptors center Chris Boucher, according to Yahoo Sports reporter Jake Fischer. The Raptors, currently 15-21 and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, have already made trades this season, including sending forward OG Anunoby elsewhere.

Fischer mentioned, “The Celtics would definitely like to find a couple of other guys. Chris Boucher, for example, is someone I know the Celtics have liked.”

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has shown a preference for players who perform exceptionally well against his team. In March 2021, while Stevens was still coaching, Boucher scored 35 points in 30 minutes off the bench during a game against Boston.

Boucher, a 6-foot-9 big man, is currently averaging 6.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in limited minutes this season. Despite these modest statistics, his recent impressive performance, scoring 17 points in just 16 minutes, has caught attention. The potential deal might face challenges due to Boucher’s close to $12 million salary this season, which exceeds the Celtics’ $6.2 million traded player exception.

However, Stevens, known for his strategic management, could potentially navigate these challenges, especially considering the Celtics’ strong position in the championship race.
