Barcelona has officially acknowledged that Brazilian forward Raphinha sustained a “left hamstring injury” during the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Osasuna on Thursday. The 27-year-old had to be substituted in the latter part of the first half in the 2-0 victory, with goals coming in the second half from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal.

Xavi had previously mentioned Raphinha’s “hamstring discomfort” in a pre-match press conference, and the club has now confirmed the injury through an official statement. The La Liga champions stated, “Tests conducted today have revealed that Raphinha has a left hamstring injury. He is sidelined, and his recovery will determine his availability.”

Although Barcelona has not specified a timeline for his recovery, Spanish journalist Roger Torello suggests that the nature of the issue could keep him out of action for approximately a month.

As a result, Raphinha might be absent for up to eight matches for Barcelona, commencing with the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid on Sunday. The Brazilian forward appears to be in a race against time to make a comeback for Barcelona’s Champions League last-16 encounter against Napoli scheduled for February 21.

This season, Raphinha has already experienced two spells on the sidelines due to suspension and injury. Nonetheless, he has made a notable impact, contributing four goals and seven assists in 20 appearances. Despite the setback against Osasuna, there was a positive development on the injury front, as Pedri returned from a muscular issue, coming off the bench for the final 30 minutes.

“We have been grappling with injuries throughout the season, recognizing the significant challenges posed by the intense fixture schedule and the high expectations placed on Barcelona,” remarked Barcelona sporting director Deco following the team’s two-goal triumph over Osasuna.

“It’s unfortunate to lose Raphinha, but on a positive note, we are welcoming back Pedri. While we’ve become somewhat accustomed to these situations, it’s regrettable because he is a crucial player for us.”

Meanwhile, Xavi stated in his post-match press conference that Pedri is “in good condition” and is expected to be in the starting lineup for El Clasico on Sunday night.

Although Joao Cancelo and Inigo Martinez are part of the squad preparing for the Spanish Super Cup final, both were absent from the bench against Osasuna due to injury concerns. It remains uncertain whether either player will recover in time for the match against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
