Over the last 18 months, Harley Reid, a teenage sensation, has been a prominent figure in numerous football discussions. Acknowledged as the top young talent in the country, evident in his No.1 selection in the 2023 AFL national draft, Reid has been under close scrutiny since officially joining the West Coast Eagles and relocating to Perth.

Speaking to the media at the AFL Player’s Association Induction Camp in Melbourne on Thursday, Reid shared that he has been enjoying his time at the club and is adapting well to life in Western Australia.

“It was a whirlwind when I first got there; I’d see my face wherever I was, just going to get a coffee or whatever,” Reid mentioned. “I’ve cherished my time there so far; it’s incredibly exciting. We’re one of the youngest groups in the AFL, if not the youngest. We’re in a good phase, undergoing restructuring, and I’m eager to be part of the journey that lies ahead in the west.”

Displaying his impressive abilities across various positions in pre-season match simulations, Reid mentioned that he and coach Adam Simpson are still in the process of deciding his position for the upcoming season.

“I’ve had experience playing in different positions so far,” Reid explained. “I’m considering where I’ll be positioned, so I don’t have a definitive answer yet; there’s still a lot of uncertainty.

“Simmo’s great; he allows me to express myself and play my natural game. However, it will be determined later on where he believes I’ll be most effective and contribute the most to the team.

Wherever they decide to place me, I’m content to play. I started at half-back, switched to midfield, and then in the next match simulation, I played in the midfield and swapped to the forward position. So, I couldn’t tell you at this point where I’ll be playing, but I’m enthusiastic about what the future holds.
