The Cleveland Browns are said to be bringing in a former prominent coach from the Alabama Crimson Tide to join their staff.

Following their defeat to the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Playoffs, the Cleveland Browns have decided to make significant changes to their offensive coaching staff. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has let go of offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, running backs coach Stump Mitchell, and tight ends coach T.C. McCartney.

Despite a successful season with 11 wins and a top-10 ranking in scoring, Stefanski deemed it necessary to shake up the coaching staff. According to information from Zac Jackson of The Athletic, the Browns are set to bring in Tommy Rees, the former offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Rees, 31, will serve as the tight ends coach and contribute to shaping the team’s passing game. This move is somewhat unexpected, as Rees only spent one season as the offensive coordinator at Alabama and found himself without a job after Nick Saban’s retirement.

While not officially designated as the passing-game coordinator, Rees is expected to have a significant role in that aspect as Stefanski finalizes his offensive coaching staff.

Before his stint with Alabama in the previous season, Rees spent six years with Notre Dame. Initially coaching the quarterback position from 2017 to 2019, he was later promoted to offensive coordinator in 2020. Rees has prior experience as an offensive assistant with the then-San Diego Chargers and served as a graduate assistant at Northwestern.

Rees was considered a potential candidate to take over as the head coach for the Crimson Tide, but Alabama ultimately chose former Washington coach Kalen DeBoer for that position.
