Once considered a prized asset in San Diego’s minor league system, Travis Jankowski is making a comeback to a team where he experienced notable success. Recent reports indicate that Jankowski has accepted a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers. Renowned reporter Buster Olney verified the agreement, noting that Jankowski’s earnings will start at a minimum of $1.7 million, with the possibility of additional performance-based bonuses.

Jankowski initially joined the Rangers as a free agent last year. Primarily serving as a backup outfielder, he seamlessly integrated into the team’s culture.

Concluding the season with a solid .263 batting average, the 32-year-old demonstrated his value on the basepaths, leading the Texas Rangers with 19 stolen bases, despite hitting just one home run during the regular season.

The Rangers evidently appreciate having a versatile reserve player with standout skills, and Jankowski’s .333 postseason batting average, coupled with an .844 OPS, undoubtedly contributed to securing another contract.

Jankowski’s journey has been intriguing, culminating in a World Series victory with the Rangers last season.

Selected as the 44th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft by San Diego, Travis Jankowski had previously gained attention for leading Stony Brook to the College World Series. Known for his adept contact hitting, the Padres secured him just before the commencement of the second round.

Following three seasons in the minor leagues, Jankowski made his debut with the Padres in 2015, showcasing versatility by playing across all outfield positions. Despite being inconsistent with his hit tool, he demonstrated prolific stolen base capabilities, although his on-base performance limited the full potential of this trait.

During his tenure with the Padres from 2020 to 2022, Jankowski never exceeded four home runs in a single season. Subsequently, he had stints with various teams, including Cincinnati, Philadelphia, the New York Mets, and Seattle, before eventually finding a home with the Texas Rangers.
