West Coast Eagles coach Adam Simpson talks about the death of Kylie Bazzo, mother of Eagles player Rhett.

West Coast co-captain Liam Duggan has received assurance that his injury from a training incident on Monday morning is not substantial. While several Eagles, including midfield standout Tim Kelly, are intensifying their pre-season training, Duggan initially caused concern during the session at Mineral Resources Park. It appeared he had tweaked his knee, receiving attention from trainers after limping off the track. However, the Eagles later clarified that he had sustained a corked leg, alleviating fears of a more severe injury.

The defender who holds a premiership has shown outstanding form in the current pre-season, particularly since taking on the captaincy alongside teammate Oscar Allen. He has been actively involved in midfield roles while also contributing in defense, a role that gains added significance following the retirement of the esteemed Shannon Hurn.

In an AFLX-style match simulation session on Monday, the 27-year-old had notable moments, demonstrating his versatility. The Eagles incorporated variations in their training format, and despite a brief injury scare, the skipper returned late to participate in additional drills.

Wingman Campbell Chesser, previously involved in match simulations the week before, had a lighter workload on Monday, with the team citing management as the reason. The Eagles clarified that Chesser would gradually increase his training later in the week. The 20-year-old, who showcased his skills by alternating between a wing and the center square in the previous week’s match practice, is in excellent physical condition as he approaches a crucial third season in his promising career.
