Warde Manuel will assume the position of selection committee chair for the College Football Playoff for the 2024 season, marking his final year on the committee.

As chair, the Michigan athletic director will lead the 13-member committee in their weekly rankings of collegiate football teams across the nation, with the ultimate objective of determining the playoff field. This responsibility coincides with significant changes anticipated for the CFP, including the expansion of the field from four teams to 12 starting this fall.

Manuel succeeds Boo Corrigan, the athletic director of North Carolina State, whose three-year term on the committee has concluded.

Expressing gratitude for his time on the committee, Manuel stated, “My first two years on the committee have been a great experience… I’m honored to be asked to serve as committee chair.”

Additionally, on Thursday, the College Football Playoff management committee announced the selection of six new members to join the selection committee:

– Patrick Chun, who serves as the athletic director at Washington State
– Randall McDaniel, a former All-American defensive lineman from Arizona State
– Gary Pinkell, the former head coach at Missouri and Toledo
– Mack Rhoades, the athletic director at Baylor
– Carla Williams, the athletic director at Virginia
– Hunter Yurachek, the athletic director at Arkansas

Furthermore, Will Shields, a former All-American lineman at Nebraska, had his term extended for another year. Completing the 2024 committee are Chris Ault, a longtime head coach and athletic director at Nevada; Chet Gladchuk, the athletic director at Navy; Jim Grobe, a longtime head coach; David Sayler, the athletic director at Miami University; and Kelly Whiteside, a professor at Montclair State University and veteran sportswriter.

“We are thrilled to have Warde serving as chair,” stated Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP, in the announcement. “He has been a valuable member of the committee for the past two years, and his experience will be beneficial in leading the group. As a former student-athlete, he will also be an effective spokesperson to communicate how the committee arrived at its rankings.”

Manuel’s Wolverines recently completed a flawless 15-0 season, securing a Big Ten title and clinching the College Football Playoff national championship. However, the program faced controversy throughout 2023 due to ongoing NCAA investigations into potential rules violations.
