More coaching updates emerge from Pittsburgh as the Steelers expand their coaching roster.

The Steelers have recruited Tom Arth to serve as their quarterbacks coach. Arth previously held the position of passing game specialist with the Los Angeles Chargers under Brandon Staley last season and underwent an interview with Pittsburgh yesterday.

This announcement closely follows the Steelers’ appointment of former Jets assistant Zach Azzanni as their new wide receivers coach. Additionally, Pittsburgh has reinstated Mike Sullivan as quarterbacks coach, retaining him in the same capacity.

The Steelers have enlisted Zach Azzanni, a former assistant with the New York Jets, as their new wide receivers coach, and Tom Arth, a former assistant with the Los Angeles Chargers, as their new quarterbacks coach, according to team sources. Discussions are ongoing regarding the status of former quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan.

Earlier reports initially suggested that Arth would serve as the Steelers’ pass game coordinator, but both Gerry Dulac and Mike DeFabo have refuted those claims, stating that the reports were inaccurate. Fans had hoped to see the Steelers explore external options when it came to assembling a new coaching staff this offseason.

Credit should be given where it’s due—the team has fulfilled those expectations. Arth’s appointment marks the third hire from outside the organization during this hiring cycle, with the most significant being offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Arth previously served as the head coach at John Carroll from 2013 to 2016 and at Chattanooga from 2017 to 2018 before taking the Akron job from 2019 to 2021. He assumed the role of pass game specialist with the Chargers in 2022.
