The Toronto Raptors pull off two unexpected trades ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

TORONTO – The Toronto Raptors were busy leading up to the NBA’s trade deadline, finalizing two distinct transactions. The first involved acquiring guard Ochai Agbaji and Canadian center Kelly Olynyk from the Utah Jazz in exchange for guard Kira Lewis Jr., forward Otto Porter Jr., and a 2024 first-round draft pick.

Following this, the Raptors traded guard Dennis Schroder and forward Thad Young to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

Following this, Toronto subsequently released Dinwiddie as a corresponding action.

The Raptors possessed three first-round selections in the upcoming summer’s draft. ESPN indicates that the least favorable of these picks will be conveyed to the Jazz as a component of the trade for Olynyk and Agbaji.

Olynyk, a Toronto native who grew up in Kamloops, B.C., served as the captain of Canada’s bronze-medal-winning team at the FIBA World Cup last fall. He is among the core group of players committed to representing Canada at the Paris Olympics in July.

Olynyk maintains averages of 8.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game this season. Agbaji, selected 14th overall in the 2022 NBA draft, holds averages of 5.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists.

Meanwhile, Porter is recording averages of 2.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.5 assists this season. The 30-year-old seasoned forward has faced numerous setbacks since joining Toronto on a two-year contract in July 2022. Following his participation in only eight games last season, he underwent season-ending surgery on his left foot. Additionally, he missed several weeks in January due to a knee injury this season and has been sidelined since his return.
