The Dallas Mavericks made a splash with fans when they added Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington to their roster on Thursday.

In Saturday’s home victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder, both players made significant contributions, seamlessly fitting into the team’s dynamics. Gafford dominated the offensive boards and showcased his dunking prowess, while Washington displayed an impressive all-around performance.

The atmosphere at the American Airlines Center was electric, surpassing that of any other game this season, as Dallas warmly embraced their new acquisitions.

Prior to the game, the Mavericks hosted an introductory press conference for both players, where they appeared thrilled to be joining the team. Shortly afterward, during his pregame press conference, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd outlined his plans for Washington and Gafford.

Kidd indicated that Washington could potentially earn a spot in the starting lineup before the All-Star break, while Gafford might have an opportunity to start if the team is dealing with injuries. However, if the team is fully healthy, Gafford may not see a starting role.

With Dereck Lively II sidelined for Monday night’s game against the Washington Wizards and possibly also missing Wednesday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, Gafford could have a chance to start before the All-Star break.

Gafford’s strong performance on Saturday showcased his seamless integration into the Mavericks’ lineup, potentially presenting Kidd with a difficult decision even when Lively II returns to full health. Fans may learn whether Gafford will start in tomorrow’s game after Kidd’s pregame press conference.
