A former San Diego Padres player has secured a fresh opportunity.

Experienced outfielder Ben Gamel has inked a minor league agreement with the New York Mets, as announced by the team on social media.

Gamel’s agreement entails a minor league contract coupled with an invitation to spring training. His tenure with the Padres commenced after he was traded to San Diego in July 2023.

During his brief stint as a Friar in 2023, Gamel appeared in only six games. The 31-year-old outfielder posted a slash line of .200/.200/.267 with a .467 OPS. Across 15 at-bats, he recorded zero home runs, two RBIs, three hits, two runs, and two strikeouts.

Subsequently, in early September, Gamel was designated for assignment. Following his clearing of waivers, he was outrighted to El Paso a couple of days later. However, he opted to decline the assignment and instead chose free agency.

While his time in San Diego was brief, we extend our best wishes to him as he embarks on spring training with the Mets.
