Fabrizio Romano reports Everton’s active pursuit of signing Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United on loan for the remaining season. Romano has updated his insights on Everton’s chase for the player. Sean Dyche’s team has a lean squad, especially with Idrissa Gueye at the African Cup of Nations and speculation surrounding Amadou Onana’s future, possibly prompting a midfield reinforcement.

The club’s Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell, cautioned supporters about minimal incoming transfers due to financial constraints, hinting at the likelihood of pursuing loan deals. Romano previously mentioned Hannibal’s decision to join Sevilla on loan despite interest from Freiburg and Lyon, but Everton has now entered the race.

The Italian journalist disclosed Everton’s recent attempts to disrupt the deal by engaging in talks over the past few days. While Hannibal had initially leaned toward Sevilla, no final decision has been made, leaving it to the player to determine his temporary destination for the latter half of the season.

Hannibal’s prior loan spell at Birmingham City aimed to provide first-team exposure, but his playing time at Manchester United has been limited. United recently extended his contract for another year, yet a winter loan seems probable. Everton’s interest in Hannibal could offer him a Premier League stay and exposure to a different team structure and coaching style.

Romano emphasizes the crucial decision awaiting Hannibal, who must choose between Sevilla, upholding his initial choice, or Everton, opting for a different Premier League environment. The final decision also hinges on the proposals made to Manchester United. The Red Devils seek full salary coverage, considering buy options—Sevilla proposes a purchase option, while United leans towards a buy-back clause. The negotiation process isn’t immediate, allowing Hannibal time to deliberate between Everton and Sevilla.

Meanwhile, speculation surrounding Amadou Onana’s departure to Arsenal for around £50m persists, potentially offering Everton additional funds amid their financial challenges.
